You’ve been told your smile needs some dental work. You know it’s necessary, but you’re really nervous. We at Smiley Dental and Orthodontics in Fort Worth, Texas understand that feeling. That’s why we want to do everything possible to make your experience safe, comfortable and painless.

What’s our strategy? It depends upon the treatment that is needed as well as your personal situation. For more the less intensive treatments – such fillings, crowns and periodontal care- we standardly administer a safe but powerful anesthetic to numb your mouth while we work.

More intensive treatments, such as wisdom tooth extractions or root canals, will likely require another approach. We also treat many patients who experience significant dental anxiety. That’s why we offer three forms of sedation in our office. The first is called oral sedation, wherein we’ll prescribe you an oral medication to take before your appointment begins. An alternative is nitrous oxide – laughing gas – a nitrogen gas which is mixed with oxygen. The final option, IV sedation, is administered through the veins. This helps Dr. Lynh Pham easily control sedation levels. For all three options, whether you are conscious or not depends upon the amount of the sedative that we give you.

If you’ve had negative dental experiences in the past or are simply prone to dental anxiety, these sedatives can aid in eliminating any likelihood of physical discomfort.
