You probably don’t enjoy coming to the dentist. Most people don’t. But some people really fear it. Maybe they have had a traumatic dental experience in the past or feel uncomfortable and vulnerable when they are reclined on the chair. To help our patients have the most comfortable experience possible, we offer several sedation options.
Sedation dentistry is all about comfort and relaxation. Pain control is best accomplished by using a local anesthetic. Sedation methods come in a variety of intensities, from very mild to deep. We can talk about what kind of sedation is best for you and your treatment.
One common technique we use is inhaling nitrous oxide or “laughing gas.” This is a sedative gas combined with oxygen, and helps patients relax. It can be controlled moment by moment by Dr. Lynh Pham and typically wears off quickly. You should be able to drive yourself home afterward.
Another option we employ is oral sedation. This involves taking an oral medication before your treatment. Strength of sedation varies depending on dosage, from mild to moderate. You will retain consciousness, though some people become relaxed enough to fall asleep. You may also slur your words and not remember everything about your visit. You will need to arrange for someone to bring you to and from our office.
You shouldn’t let any dental anxiety keep you from having great oral health. There are a variety of options available to help you feel at ease while you are at Smiley Dental Camp Bowie. Please call us for more information about sedation dentistry and to schedule your appointment today.
